About Victor Valley College

Victor Valley College was established by authority of the voters in 1960. with the first classes offered in 1961. The first classes were held in 1961 on the Victor Valley High School campus in Victorville. VVC is now in its 64th year of service to the community The College’s main campus is located 90 miles north of Los Angeles in the High Desert of Southern California and covers a geographic service area of approximately 2,200 square miles. Communities served by the District include Adelanto, Apple Valley, Helendale, Hesperia, Spring Valley Lake, Lucerne, Oro Grande, Phelan, Piñon Hills, Victorville, and Wrightwood. The region was formerly described as semi-rural but over the last 20 years has been transformed into an industrial/commercial and retail center with a burgeoning population.
“VVC is the Place to Be" when industry identifies a skill gap. VVC is the primary source of workforce training in Victor Valley. For hundreds of thousands of students over the last 63 years, it has been the place to begin a college education or train for a career. VVC has more closely matched its founders’ vision of an institution that enriches the burgeoning community and helps students build a brighter future.
VVC serves a fast-growing high desert population base of nearly 450,000 and supports through the VVC Bridge program 36 feeder high schools. Victor Valley College is the fastest growing community college in California. Enrollment has increased over 50% in the past three years. This overall growth is a result of the concerted efforts of both our dedicated staff and faculty. College growth has resulted in VVC now being classified as a middle size college bringing in an extra $2.2 million to the college annually.
Ideal Candidate

- The Victor Valley Community College District seeks a dynamic, experienced and collaborative leader to serve as the next Vice President of Student Services.
- Candidates should possess demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the student services functions of a complex organization such as a California community college.
- The Vice President of Student Services serves as the chief student affairs officer of the District, providing executive leadership for comprehensive student services programs that support student success, equity, and completion.
- The Vice President of Student Services provides visionary leadership for all areas of student services in a dynamic, complex, and diverse single college district, ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes student success.
Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in student services, higher education administration, counseling, psychology, or related field. (Doctoral degree preferred)
- Fiver (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student services or related areas in higher education. (California community colleges preferred)
Desirable Qualifications

Experience
Five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student services or related areas in higher education.
Experience as a Student Services manager in a community college district.
Earned doctorate degree in Higher Education Leadership or related field.
Comprehensive understanding of enrollment management best practices, and student success strategies within a community college.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of student services administration in California community colleges.
- Federal, state, and local regulations governing student services including Title IX, ADA, FERPA, and California Education Code.
- Student development theory and best practices in student success and completion.
- Equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice principles and practices.
- Strategic planning, organizational development, and change management principles.
- Budget development, fiscal management, and resource allocation.
- Personnel management, supervision, and staff development.
- Research methods, data analysis, and assessment techniques
- Technology applications in student services and enrollment management.
- Community college transfer and career pathways.
- Crisis intervention and student conduct procedures.
Ability to:
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for comprehensive student services operations.
- Promote equity, inclusions, and student success for diverse population.
- Develop and implement innovative programs and services that remove barriers to student success.
- Communicate effectively with diverse constituencies both orally and in writing.
- Analyze complex data and use evidence-based decision making.
- Manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
- Adapt to changing environments and lead organizational change.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of the organization.
- Represent the District professionally in various forums and settings.
