CSU Minimum Transfer Requirements

  • Complete at least 60 transferable units
  • Make sure at least 30 of those units are general education courses
  • Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in all transferable college courses. (Some majors/campuses may require a higher GPA to be competitive)
  • Be in good academic standing at your last college. (This means you are eligible to return and are not dismissed or suspended).
  • Complete the following Golden four required courses with a grade of C or higher
    • Oral Communication
    • Written Communication
    • Critical Thinking
    • Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning

Specific Major Criteria

Some CSU campuses get more qualified applicants than they have space for. When that happens, the campus is considered impacted. This means:

  • The campus has more students applying than it can admit
  • Simply meeting the minimum CSU requirements is not enough to guarantee admission
  • The campus is allowed to use extra criteria (like higher GPAs, specific coursework, or supplemental questions) to decide who gets admitted

Look at www.assist.org for specific major requirements.

CSU Campuses Impacted at the Campus Level for 2026–2027

These universities are impacted for all majors:

  • Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
  • Cal State Fullerton
  • Cal State Long Beach
  • San Diego State University
  • San José State University

Because these schools are impacted across all programs, they are more competitive and may require a higher GPA or additional requirements. To find out whether a program you're interested in is impacted, use the impaction database to search by university name.
